Curtis J. Baker

Curtis J. Baker, 95, of California, Mo., passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at California Care Center. He was born on February 18, 1918, in Moniteau County, Mo., the son of Peter Joseph Baker Sr. and Rose Maria (Strickfaden) Baker, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a 1937 graduate of California High School, and served in the United States Army in World War II, where he was an Infantry Machine Gunner with E. Company, 186th Regiment, 41st Division. Curtis worked in the spinning department with California Woolen Mill. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, and was a charter member of California VFW Post #4345. He enjoyed golfing and hunting and was active in supporting high school athletics. He is survived by five nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters; three nieces and one nephew. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church in California, Mo. Burial with full military honors will be in Annunciation Catholic Cemetery. Officiating will be Fr. David Maher. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak, California, MO 65018.
