Roger A. Schmidt U.S. Veteran

July 19, 1943 - February 16, 2013

Roger A. Schmidt, 69, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born July 19, 1943, in St. Thomas, Missouri, a son of the late Frank G. and Clara (Haselhorst) Schmidt. Roger was a graduate of Fatima High School in Westphalia, and went on to earn his Associate degree from Lincoln University in Jefferson City. On July 21, 1973, Roger was united in marriage at St. Martin Catholic Church, to Marilyn Hentges, who survives at their home. Roger worked for Chesebrough-Ponds (Unilever) for over 30 years, where he retired in 1999 as a Supervisor. He also worked for McGraw Manufacturing. Roger was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, and was a longtime volunteer at the Samaritan Center with his wife Marilyn. Roger loved to tinker with anything and loved to fix everything. He enjoyed building bicycles, woodworking, working with electronics and computers, and tending to his plants and garden. Most of all, Roger loved his two grandchildren Julian and Gabriel. Along with his wife Marilyn, Roger is also survived by a son: Curtis Schmidt (wife Sheila) of New Bloomfield, Mo.; two grandchildren: Julian and Gabriel Schmidt of New Bloomfield, Mo.; two brothers: Raymond Schmidt (wife Harriet) of St. Thomas, Mo.; Ronald Schmidt (wife Sharon) of St. Louis, Mo.; and six sisters: Mary Ann Fennewald of Meta, Mo.; JoAnn Bax (husband Edward) of O'Fallon, Mo.; Linda Schmidt of Jefferson City, Mo.; Alice Reinke (husband David) of Camdenton, Mo.; Susan Schmidt of Battlefield, Mo.; and Judith Howlett (husband John) of Richland, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Clara Schmidt; two brothers: Joseph Schmidt and Steven Schmidt; and one brother-in-law: Patrick Fennewald. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at St. Martin Catholic Church, with Fr. Ed Schmidt officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in the St. Martin Parish Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Martin Catholic Church or the Samaritan Center.
