Edward Peter Schulte U.S. Veteran

Edward Peter Schulte, 86, of Jefferson City, Mo., and formerly of Argyle and Koeltztown, Mo., passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility, surrounded by his family. He was born July 22, 1926, in Vienna, Mo., a son of the late Joseph F. and Mary M. (Grant) Schulte. He attended school in Argyle, Mo. On June 2, 1952, Edward was united in marriage in Freeburg, Mo., to Mary Jane Schulte, who survives at their home. Edward was co-owner of Schulte Feed Store in Argyle, from 1956-1962, and truck driver for Quaker Windows, Groner Transport and Farmer's Concrete for a number of years until he was employed at Chesebrough-Ponds. Edward worked at Chesebrough-Ponds for 23 years, until his retirement in 1989. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II from 1945-1946 and received the WWII Victory Medal. He also served in the Korean War from 1951-1954 and received the Service Medal with Bronze Stars, and Infantry Badge. He also served in the 2nd Division, 38th Regiment with the Graves Registration. Edward was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of American Legion Post 5, and The Blue Army. He was currently a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City, and a former member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Argyle, and St. Boniface Catholic Church in Koeltztown. He enjoyed reading, gardening, loved trains, traveling, and was a big St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. "Papa" loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Along with his wife Mary Jane, Edward is also survived by two sons: Paul Schulte of Jefferson City, Mo.; Mark Schulte (wife Lisa) of Springfield, Mo.; two daughters: Kathy Couch (husband Bert) of Albertville, Minn.; Melaine Ott (husband Guy) of Jefferson City, Mo.; two brothers: Clem Schulte (wife Ragene) of Argyle, Mo.; Joseph "Pickle" Schulte of Nanuet, N.Y.; two sisters: Dorothy "Dot" Buschjost of St. Thomas, Mo.; Marie Prater of Washington, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law: Tresilla "Patty" and Pat Schanzmeyer; brothers-in-law: Jerome Buschjost, and Lavern Prater; and a sister-in-law: Mildred Schulte. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Houser-Millard Funeral Home in Jefferson City, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21, 2013, at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Argyle. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21, 2013, at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Argyle, with Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz serving as Celebrant. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in the St. Aloysius Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to a Charity of the Donor's Choice.
