John Elliott Lewis

John Elliott Lewis, 56, of California, Mo., went to be with his Lord Friday, February 1, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family whom he loved so dearly. John was born February 25, 1956, in Sedalia, Mo., to parents Forest E. and Sue Duvall Lewis. His mother survives of Otterville. On February 2, 1990, he was united in marriage to Pamela Sue Porter who survives of the home. John was a 1974 graduate of Tipton High School and a 1976 graduate of State Fair Community College, Sedalia, Mo., receiving an Associate Degree in Agri Business. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, California, where he had held positions of Assistant Treasurer, money counter, door greeter and had served on the finance and budget committee. John had also served as Ward 2 Councilman for the City of California. John farmed until employed at Cargill from 1978-1989, as a cold storage forklift operator and later as a refrigeration mechanic, 1989-1996 at Putnam Chevrolet and the 1996-2001 at Riley Chevrolet as a Sales Consultant. He was recognized for numerous auto sales accomplishments including Truck Sales Honor Club, Legion of Leaders by Chevrolet and Master Sales Guild by Pontiac. John then started his own business, Lewis Home Furnishings from 2001-2010 until his illness caused his retirement. John was a member of the United Sportsmen's Club in Jefferson City and the California Shooters Club where he held offices of Secretary, Vice President and President. As a teenager and then later as a young man he was an avid quail hunter. John then introduced his son to the outdoors and hunting lifestyle. From 1996-2000 John won trapshooting events in Linn Creek, Sedalia and Jefferson City. In 1999 and 2000 John competed at The World Trapshooting Tournament, The Grand American then held in Vandalia, Ohio near Dayton. John enjoyed driving his cars to car cruises and car shows, visiting with other classic car owners and enthusiast. He held a strong interest in late 1960's and early 1970's American muscle cars. John also enjoyed going back to the family farm; his favorite time was always during the fall harvest season. John most enjoyed spending time with his family where he was a truly devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather. John is survived by one son, Travis (Katie) Lewis of Otterville; one daughter, Sarah Lewis of California; a step-daughter Jessica Kendrick of the home; five grandchildren, Ella, Treston and Vivian Lewis, Autumn Casados and Maiya Kendrick. He is also survived by brothers, Kirt (Joyce) Lewis of Otterville, and Ralph Lewis of Everett, Wash.; several nieces, nephews and many friends. Visitation will be Monday, February 4, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Windmill Ridge Funeral Service in California, Mo. Funeral services will be held at Main Street Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday February 5, 2013, with Rev. Eddie Schoeneberg officiating. Interment will follow at the Enloe Cemetery.
