Dorothy E. Farmer

Dorothy E. Farmer, age 97 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., peacefully went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Oak Tree Villa with family by her side. She was born on October 26, 1915, in Syracuse, Mo. to Emmett L. and Jessie M.E. Shinkle Reed. Her mother died when she was very young so Dorothy was raised by her aunt and uncle, Leslie and Lula Ann Reed. She was married on December 7, 1941, to Malcolm Lee Farmer, who preceded her in death on December 30, 1975. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Dorothy was a 1933 graduate of Syracuse High School. After high school she received two years of secretarial schooling. She was employed with the state of Missouri for 38 years in numerous departments. She started her career working in the Capitol as a secretary with the Department of Revenue. She later worked with the Secretary of State's Office under the Kirkpatrick Administration, the Attorney General's Office, and retired from the state of Missouri in 1982 as secretary to the director with the Department of Corrections. Dorothy was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and was once active with the Joy Sunday School Class. Dorothy's main passion was spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-granddaughter. She also loved being outside tending to her flowers, traveling and collecting stamps and sporting items. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal's fan and enjoyed following the University of Missouri Women's Softball team coached by her grandson, Ehren. Survivors include: one son, Donald Mac Farmer and his wife Marilyn of Jefferson City, Mo.; two daughters, Olivia Cheadle and her husband Ron of Jefferson City, Mo and Nancy Farmer (Earleywine) Hurlbut and her husband David of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Jessie Ruth Dorness of Granbury, Texas.; five grandchildren, Kelly Earleywine Sullens, Ehren Earleywine and his wife Lisa, Chance Tyree, Erica Carroll and her husband Rob, and Jena Tyree; eight great-grandchildren, Bradley Moses, Cameron Carroll, Brooke Livengood and her husband Adam, Bryce Sullens, Britney Sullens, Brandyn Reed Sullens, Connor Earleywine, and Duran Earleywine; one great-great-granddaughter, Isabella Livengood. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John L. Reed; and an infant grandson, Darren B. Earleywine. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.
