James Jacob Rapp U.S. Veteran

February 7, 1926 - September 17, 2012

James Jacob Rapp, age 86, of Texarkana, Arkansas, died Monday, September 17, 2012, at a hospital in Texarkana. Mr. Rapp was born February 7, 1926, in Jefferson City, Missouri. He was employed by Standard Oil in Jefferson City, Cape Girardeau, and Flat River, Missouri, and retired from Ameren UE on February 1, 1990, after 36 years of service in the engineering department. He attended Dix Road Church of Christ (Fairgrounds Rd. Church of Christ) in Jefferson City and served as a deacon for three years and as an elder for 39 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in WWII. He moved from Jefferson City to Texarkana, Arkansas, in December, 2004, to be near family. He was a member of Walnut Church of Christ in Texarkana, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Bonna Lou Payne Rapp of the home; two granddaughters, Martina (Matthew) Welch and their children, Emma and Garrett of Norton, Mass. and Tanya Johnson of Little Rock, Ark.; a son-in-law, David Pope of Texarkana, Ark; two step-granddaughters, Jennifer Bland of Shreveport, La. and her daughters, Caroline and Hannah and Laura (Gregg) Stull and their daughter, Elizabeth of Coldwater, Miss. Survivors from Jefferson City include: three sisters, Mary Scarr, Betty (Paul) Volkmer and Elsie (Leroy) Strope; a sister-in-law, Judy (Frank) Stephens, and a brother-in-law, Roger Cletis Payne; a sister-in-law, Helen Rapp of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and numerous other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl Lou Rapp Pope; one granddaughter, Julie Katrina Johnson; one brother, Otto Rapp Jr. and one step son-in-law, Jason Bland. A visitation will be held starting at 1 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2012, with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ, 1316 Fairgrounds Road, Jefferson City, with Carey Terry officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Fair Haven Children's Home, 3132 N.
