Ethel Louise Pawley

Ethel Louise Pawley, 92, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Heisinger Bluffs. She was born on March 31, 1920, in Wolfe City, Texas, the daughter of the late Dr. Ocie Washington and Ethel Bernice (Garland) McPeters. Mrs. Pawley attended and graduated from Dunbar High School in Texarkana, Texas, received her Bachelors degree in Physical Education from Prairie View A&M College, and received her Masters of Education from Lincoln University. She was united in marriage on August 14, 1941, in Texarkana, Texas, to Dr. Thomas DÈsirÈ Pawley who resides at the home. Mrs. Pawley was a teacher for St. Peter Catholic School and for Southwest Elementary School for 28 years. Mrs. Pawley also worked for the Missouri and National Council of Churches. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, was a Docent with the Cole County Historical Society Museum, and in her earlier years was a Cub Scouts volunteer. Mrs. Pawley enjoyed playing Bridge, crocheting, Broadway musicals, and working on puzzles. Other survivors include: two sons, Thomas Pawley, IV (Debi Enright), Jefferson City; Larry Pawley, Jefferson City; one sister-in-law, Gloria Martin, Upper Marlboro, Maryland; nieces and nephews, Renee McPeters, Los Angeles; David Martin, New York City, N.Y.; Robert Martin, Adelphi, Md.; Melva Wharton, Roanoke, Va.; Harriet Fields, Poolesville, Md.; cousins, Linda Robinson, Austin, Texas; Lillian DeWitt, Albany, N.Y.; and Mollie Simons, Old Greenwhich, Conn. She will also be missed by her extended family and friends, especially in the Garland community in DeKalb, Texas. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ocie "O.W." McPeters Jr. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Monday, October 29, 2012, at Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. Shariya Molegoda officiating. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
