Delores Ann Whitman, 59, of Detroit, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012, in Detroit. She was born January 24, 1953, in Jefferson City, a daughter of B.F. English and Matilda Pauline Davis. She attended Jefferson City High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business from American Career Academy. Delores worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections at the Missouri State Penitentiary for many years. She worked for AAA Michigan as a claims specialist until her retirement in 2011. She was an active member of Celestial Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed going on cruises and going to casinos. On June 11, 1993, Delores was united in marriage to Robert Lee Whitman, who preceded her in death on April 3, 2012. She is survived by three children: Manuel S. Davis (Tara) of Jefferson City, Rachel D. Davis of Jefferson City, Michael D. White (April) of Mexico, Missouri; three step-children: Diane Ruffinilli (Bud) of Los Angeles, California, Faye Whitman and Lee Whitman, both of Detroit, Michigan; three siblings: Benjamin Davis (Valerie), Virginia Brown (Dwenard) and Floyd Davis (Christy), all of Jefferson City; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Delores was preceded in death by her parents; three stepchildren: Robert Earl Whitman, Beverly Houston, Sharon Whitman; and one sister, Paula O'Toole. Friends will be received from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 25, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Marion Mitchell and Rev. Rance Austin officiating. Private family interment will be held in Longview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Susan B. Komen for the Cure.
