Emma Katy Stockard, 99, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Heisinger Bluffs. She was born on November 2, 1912, in California, Mo., the daughter of the late Edgar and Maggie (Dale) Strother. She graduated from California High School in 1931, attended Warrensburg State Teacher College, and graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1941. She was united in marriage on May 28, 1944, in Jefferson City to Gregory Clement Stockard who preceded her in death on October 14, 1993. Mrs. Stockard worked for the Jefferson City Public Schools as an elementary school teacher at the old Broadway School and West Elementary School. She also worked for the Missouri Highway Patrol Records Department, Missouri State Senate as a secretary, and with Scholastic Publications as a sales representative. In 2009, Mrs. Stockard was inducted into the Hall of Leaders by the Jefferson City Public Schools Foundation as an Outstanding Foundation Donor. Mrs. Stockard's unrestricted gifts supported the early expansion of Foundation programs. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, P.E.O Chapter BW, Century Study Club, and the Jane Randolph Jefferson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Stockard volunteered for the Republican Party, was a Docent for the Missouri Governors Mansion, and helped with Senior Citizens Tax Preparation. She enjoyed flower gardening, being with her family and friends, traveling, and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Survivors include many nieces and nephews and extended family members. She was also preceded in death by her son, Gregory Stockard Jr.; three sisters, Dollie Oestery, Dr. Matilda Williams, Virginia Koehrmann; and five brothers, Rev. Lewis Strother, George Strother, Edgar Strother, Albert Strother, and Ralph Strother. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Daniel P. Hilty officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be noon till 2 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012, at the church.
