David B. Finley

Mr. David B. Finley, age 42 years, of Palm Bay, Fla., formerly of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012, at his home due to heart complications. David was born on May 17, 1970, in Frankford, Germany, the son of the late Stephen L. Finley and Linda Jordan Finley Albertson. He was married on May 5, 2001, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Shelly Floyd. A resident of the Jefferson City area for the majority of his life, David was a member of the 1988 class at Jefferson City High School where he was a member of the JCHS Marching Band and a member of their drum line. David and Shelly relocated to Florida shortly after they married and he started his own company in Florida, Finley Installation, where he installed and designed kitchen and bathroom cabinetry. While living in Jefferson City, he worked with his father at Apache Lumber and later Kitchens-N-More where he was instrumental in the innovative virtual computer designs the company offered customers. David's hobbies included fishing, hunting and camping. After he moved to Florida his passion became scuba diving where he achieved the level of master diver. He was a member of a diving club and loved diving with friends off the coast of Florida as well as one very special diving trip to the Cayman Islands and had logged more than 600 dives. He also enjoyed lobster fishing, spear fishing, and science fiction films. Survivors include: his wife, Shelly Finley of Palm Bay, Fla.; one step-son, Jack Floyd and his wife Evanne of Palm Bay, Fla.; one step-daughter, Jamie Floyd of Palm Bay, Fla.; his mother and step-father, Linda and Marshall Albertson of Jefferson City, Mo.; his paternal grandmother, Frances Finley of Jefferson City, Mo.; three step-brothers, Isaiah Albertson, Levi Albertson, and Lance Albertson and his wife Jessica, all of Jefferson City, Mo.; his beloved German Sheppard, Teal'c; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen L. Finley; his paternal grandfather, Ben Finley; and his maternal grandparents, R.H. and Lillian Jordan. Following David's wishes, his body will be cremated and remains buried at sea off the coast of Florida. A Celebration of David's Life will be held at a later time in Jefferson City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, 104 Corporate Lake Drive, Columbia, MO 65203 or the Jefferson City Animal Shelter located at 2308 Hyde Park Road, Jefferson City, MO 65109. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Freeman Mortuary in Jefferson City and Fountainhead Funeral Home in Palm Bay, Fla.
