Norman L. Smead

Norman L. Smead, 53, of Tebbetts, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 23, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center, after sudden cardiac arrest. He was born December 11, 1958, in Holden, Missouri, a son of Glenn Lester Smead and Ethal Marie (Shippy) Smead. Norman was a graduate of Lee's Summit High School in Lee's Summit, Missouri. He went on to attend the University of Missouri - Kansas City and Long View Community College. He received his Bachelor's degree from Columbia College. On December 8, 1985, Norman was united in marriage to Joyce Kempker, who survives at their home. Norman worked for Pizza Inn and Sears while in Kansas City. He also worked for the MO Department of Corrections and from 1993 to 2011 he worked for RR Donnelley in Jefferson City. He loved bowling, traveling with his family and friends, camping, canoeing, and coin collecting. Along with his wife Joyce, Norman is also survived by four children: Erica M. Smead of St. Thomas, Missouri, Jamie L. Smead of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Daniel L. Smead and Amber N. Smead both of the home; his father: Glenn L. Smead (wife Kimiko) of Jefferson City, Missouri; one brother: Robert G. Smead (wife Lori) of Lee's Summit, Missouri; one sister: Anne Katherine of Seattle, Washington; one step-brother: Bobby Mills of Los Angeles, California; one step-sister: Carol Mills of Memphis, Tennessee; and 12 nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother: Ethal M. Smead in 1998; mother-in-law: Lorine J. Kempker in 2007; and father-in-law: Anthony "Tony" Kempker in 2005. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Taos. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Norman Smead Children's Educational Fund.
