Dorothy E. Jackson

Mrs. Dorothy E. Jackson, age 76 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, November 5, 2012, at St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham, Ill. Dorothy was born July 2, 1936, in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Peter J. and Lillah V. Burks Hartman. She was married on January 29, 1955, in Fulton, Mo., to Charles M. Jackson, who preceded her in death on July 31, 1981. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Dorothy graduated from St. Peter School. A homemaker for the majority of her life, she had been employed with the Missouri State Health Lab for several years prior to her retirement in 2001. Before her work with the health lab, she had worked briefly at St. Mary's Health Center. She was a member of St. Peter Church. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, fishing, and watching Wheel of Fortune, but most importantly, she loved spending time with her family. Survivors include: one son, Charles M. "Butch" Jackson Jr. and his wife Florence of Russellville, Mo.; two daughters, Cathy Renfrow and her husband Kenny of New Franklin, Mo. and Cindy Hazlett and her husband Steve of Altamont, Ill.; three brothers, Jim Hartman of Jefferson City, Mo., Jerry Hartman of Holts Summit, Mo., and Simon "Pete" Hartman and his wife Lillian of Centertown, Mo.; two sisters, Mary McLean and her husband Dewey of Blacksburg, Va. and Helen "Polly" Prey of Jefferson City, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Kenneth Renfrow, Melissa Washburn and her husband Frank, Adam Hazlett and his wife Amanda, Jessica Scholes and her husband Sean, Jenny Hazlett, Dean Hazlett, Cory Jackson, and Cole Jackson; 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Ethel Hartman, Carol Hartman, and Dorothy Ann Hartman; and one brother-in-law, Ben Luebbering. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie; two brothers, John Hartman and Charles Hartman; and three sisters, Anna Call, Virginia Luebbert, and Lucy Luebbering. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012, with a prayer service to be conducted at 4:30 p.m. in the Freeman Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 9, 2012, at St. Peter Church with the Reverend Augustine Okoli officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
