Lois Catherine Groene, 91, of Argyle, departed this life on Sunday, May 6, 2012, in the Capital Region Medical Center, Jefferson City. She had been in failing health for some time Lois was born on December 5, 1920, near Meta, in Maries County, a daughter of Michael D. "Mike" and Sara Elizabeth "Eva" (Krone) Connor. Mrs. Groene was united in marriage on September 10, 1941, at Argyle, to Bernard Casper "Ben" Groene, and to this union, four children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on November 27, 2006; her father on April 4, 1950; her mother on October 25, 1954; one daughter-in-law, Jane Groene on August 31, 2001; one son-in-law, Paul Rackers on March 27, 2002; five sisters, Mae Voderburg on August 22, 1972; Florence Vaughn on September 7, 1994; Irene Reinkemeyer on April 8, 1976; Gertrude Bauer on September 28, 1969 and Mabel Reinkemeyer on May 13, 2006. Mrs. Groene was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle; the Ladies Sodality of the Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Argyle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8045, having been a charter member since the post was formed on April 21, 1950. She had done cleaning for the Argyle Family Clinic, and along with her husband, had been a caretaker for the St. Aloysius Parish for over 20 years. Mrs. Groene was a devoted housewife and homemaker and was always diligent in providing for the needs of her family. Some of her favorite activities were visiting with friends, watching game shows on television and talking on the telephone. Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Groene include: two sons, James R. Groene and friend, Alice Ann White, Wardsville; Jerome Groene and wife, Venny, Koeltztown; two daughters, Catherine Rackers and friend, John Schaffer, and Connie Falter and husband, Allen, all of Argyle; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren with two expected in the near future; and many other relatives and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Groene at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, on May 9, 2012, in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle, with the Rev. David Maher officiating. Interment will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery, Argyle, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m., Tuesday, on May 8, 2012, with a VFW Ladies Auxiliary service beginning at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary Service led by the auxiliary members and visitation from 9 - 10 a.m., Wednesday, on May 9, 2012, all in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle. Memorial contributions may be made to the Meals on Wheels Program or the St. Aloysius Catholic Church with envelopes available at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle, or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
