Leroy Stewart

Leroy Stewart, 58, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at his home. He was born August 19, 1953, in East St. Louis, Ill., a son of Hardin and Lilly (White) Stewart. In 1974, Leroy moved to Jefferson City to attend Lincoln University. While going to school, he was involved in ROTC and campus security. In 1979 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Leroy started his law enforcement career in 1983 with the Jefferson City Police Department as a police officer. He retired in 2009 after 26 years of service to the community. Over the years, Leroy also worked for Sears, the Prenger Family Center and First Student Transportation. In his retirement, he liked to stay active, working around the house and spending time with his friends. Leroy was very skilled in karate, winning third place in the National Police Officer Olympics karate competition. His passion was riding his Gold Wing motorcycle. He had been an active member of the Peace Makers and Gold Wing Road Riders Association and was a founding member of the Wheels of Choice Motorcycle Club. On December 15, 2000, Leroy was united in marriage to Kim Robinson, who survives at their home. Other survivors include one son, Courtney Pulley of Columbia; one daughter, Erica Stewart of Chicago, Ill.; eight siblings: Elsie, William and Thomas, all of East St. Louis, Ill., Ronald of Mississippi, Vincent of Memphis, Tenn., Anthony of Jackson, Miss., Felicia and Pamela of Memphis, Tenn.; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. One sibling, Ruthie, preceded him in death. Friends will be received from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 31, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
