Mr. George E. Morse, age 82 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at St. Joseph Bluffs. George was born on November 8, 1929, in Watova, Okla., the son of Lester E. Sr. and Irma Klyde Kendrick Morse. He was married in 1955 at Pocahontas, Ark., to Betty Colleen Schnider, who preceded him in death on June 8, 1987. George spent time as a child in Oklahoma and Kansas while his father was an employee of what was then Missouri Pacific Railroad. The family moved to Jefferson City when he was a teen. He graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1947 and later attended the University of Missouri. George served in the United States Navy in the early 1950's and was honorably discharged on August 2, 1954. He returned to Jefferson City and soon was employed by Schnider's Men's Wear. He worked there as a clerk from the mid 1950's until the store closed in August, 1980, making many good friends and providing great customer service. He later was employed with the Missouri Dept. of Revenue and enjoyed working with his colleagues there until his retirement in February 1997. George was a member of the Jefferson City Elks, and served a term as "Exalted Ruler" in the early 1960's. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 2693; the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; a member of the National Rifle Assn.; and a member of Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed hunting and fishing locally, as well as other areas of the Midwest, Canada, and the Gulf of Mexico. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the Lake of the Ozarks. Survivors include: two sons, Jeffrey K. Morse and his wife Jan of Benton, Ark., and Steve V. Morse of Jefferson City, Mo.; one daughter, Melissa A. Morse of Hinesville, Ga.; and three grandchildren, Andrew Morse, Stephanie Morse, and Melanie Morse. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister, June Morse Warren; and one brother, Lester E. Morse Jr. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2012, in the Freeman Chapel with Chaplain Jim Mueller officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Ducks Unlimited or the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
