Jane E. Smith

Jane E. Smith, 88, of Jefferson City, formerly of Perry, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2012 at St. Mary's Health Center.
She was born May 30, 1924, in Ralls County, Mo., the daughter of Walter Thomas and Melda Virginia English Elliott.
Jane was married to Glenn Charles Smith on November 28, 1946. in Ralls County. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1978.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Texas A&M at Canyon, Texas. She was a lifetime Missouri resident, other than spending seven years in Texas. She retired after teaching for 27 years, with 15 years of service in the Ralls County School District.She was member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Holts Summit, the Ladies Altar Sodality, the Missouri State Teachers Assn, the Jefferson City VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Perry Study Club, and Learning In Retirement at Lincoln University. She enjoyed reading, genealogy and was a published author of stories of her youth in rural Missouri during the Depression and WW II era.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Charles Thomas and Denice Smith of St. Louis, Karl Eugene and Judy Smith of Amarillo, Texas, and Britt Elliott and Candace Smith of Jefferson City; one daughter, Lois Jane Smith of Maplewood; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lois Virginia Elliott and Carol Jeanne Holsclaw; and one son, Glenn Wayne Smith.
Mass of Christian Burial for will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at St. William Catholic Church in Perry with Rev. John Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Lick Creek Cemetery, Perry.
Visitation will be Monday evening, June 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 400 St. Andrews Dr., Holts Summit, Mo., with a prayer service at 7 with Rev. Msgr. Greg Higley officiating.
