Alycea Kay Bernard

Alycea Kay Bernard, 65, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday June 17, 2012, at Phoenix Baptist Hospital. She was born August 4, 1946, in Jefferson City and was the daughter of George James Higgins and Leola Virginia (Odil) Higgins. She graduated from Jefferson City Senior High in 1964. Alycea worked in the Insurance industry for over 35 years for several of the country's largest insurance companies, including Principal Financial Group, Nationwide and Provident Mutual. She retired in August, 2010. She enjoyed traveling, reading, spending time with her family and friends, and watching Arizona and Missouri sports on TV. She loved animals and often incorporated animal encounters into her travels. She is survived by two sons; Bryan Connell and his wife Sheila, and Travis Connell, all of Jefferson City; one granddaughter, Kandice Anderson and husband Tyler; one great-grandson, Aiden Anderson, all of Muskogee, Okla.; and one brother, James Higgins and wife Trish, of Dahlonega, Ga. She was preceded in death by her father, George James Higgins, and her mother, Leola Virginia Higgins. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
