Dennis Raye Reed

Dennis Raye Reed, 65, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, July 9, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born July 12, 1946, in Hannibal, Missouri, the son of the late Bernard M. and Dorothy H. (Maple) Reed. Dennis was a 1964 graduate of Jefferson City High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's degree and Master's degree from Lincoln University in Jefferson City. On June 18, 1966, Dennis was united in marriage in Wurzburg, Germany, to Barbara E. Schimmer, who survives at their home. Dennis worked for the Missouri Division of Employment Security and the Department of Labor/Workforce Development until his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served from 1964 - 1968. He served in the Army National Guard from 1977 - 1991, and in the Army Reserves from 1991 - 1993, and retired as Sergeant. Dennis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Cosmopolitan Club, the American Legion, and the Holiday Rambler Club. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home, bowling, playing golf, and was an avid NASCAR fan. Along with his wife Barbara, Dennis is also survived by four children: Cornelia Schwarz (husband Rainer) of Germany, Bryan Reed of Jefferson City, Jeanne Reed of Jefferson City, Christine Demerest (husband Duane) of Jefferson City; and three grandchildren: Steffen Schwarz, Andreas Schwarz and Kaleb Reed. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 13, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor John Hobratschk officiating. Graveside Services with full military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, Missouri. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association or to Trinity Lutheran Church.
