James B. Scrivner

James B. Scrivner, age 78 years, of Santa Ana, Calif., passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2012. He was born March 13, 1933, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Iris E. Griffith and J. O. Scrivner. He married former Jefferson City resident, Mary Anna Weir Abraham in Santa Ana on May 24, 1986. Jim was a graduate of Jefferson City High School and Jefferson City Junior College. He served in the United States Army two years and the U.S. Army Reserves six years. While serving in the reserves, he attended and graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo. He began his professional career with the Sherck, Stein, and Richter brokerage firm in Jefferson City and then affiliated with City National Bank & Trust in Kansas City, Mo. and Dallas, Texas. Upon his return to Jefferson City he became a Financial Insurance Examiner for the Missouri Department of Insurance. After 15 years with Missouri, he was employed with Delaware and then Mississippi in the same capacity until retirement. During his younger years in Jefferson City, Jim enjoyed his avocations of singing in barbershop quartets, choirs, and weddings, and acting in Little Theater productions. He especially valued his relationships with his many cousins and friends across the country. Although in declining health the past five years, he enjoyed his frequent telephone visits with them. Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Anna; his step-children, Suzanne, Scott, and Gary (Natasha) Abraham; step- grandchildren, Brianna Parisi, Daniel and Evan Dobalian, Sophia, Ryan and Justin Abraham. Also surviving are cousins, Diane Ludwig of Fulton, Mo., Charles Scrivner of Independence, Mo., John Griffith of Jefferson City, Mo., Mary Lou Griffith Gardiner of Spokane, Wash., Vinsel Scrivner of Russellville and California, Mo., and Brylene Connell of Eldon, Mo. At Jim's request, his cremains will be interred next to his parents in the Riverview Cemetery of Jefferson City. A graveside service is planned for early summer. Memorial donations are suggested to the First Christian Church, 327 E. Capitol Ave., Jefferson City, MO, the American Heart Association, or the American Diabetic Association.
