Nathan R. Carter

Nathan R. Carter, age 25 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012, at his home. Nathan was born December 6, 1986, in San Francisco, California, the son of Ross Carter and Judy Dawson. He grew up in San Francisco and then moved to Jefferson City, Mo. in 1998. He was a 2005 graduate of Jefferson City High School and a 2010 graduate of the University of Missouri at Columbia. After graduation from the University of Missouri, Nathan completed a graduate internship program at the American University in Washington D.C. Nathan was employed as an International Affairs Intern with the National Conference of State Legislatures in Washington D.C. He was a member of the Missouri College Democrats; the Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Fraternity; and the Political Science Club. He was a volunteer with Relay for Life and Caring for Columbia. Nathan enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, watching movies, reading, golf, exercising and sports in general. Survivors include: his parents, Ross Carter and Judy Dawson; maternal grandmother, Billie J. Dawson of Jefferson City, Mo.; paternal grandparents, Dr. Harold and Paula Carter of Jefferson City, Mo.; four aunts, Sarah and Don Welch of Wardsville, Mo., Susan and David Buzzard of Plano, Texas, Cathy Carter of Jefferson City, Mo., Hope and Brion Copas of Lohman, Mo.; three uncles, John Dawson and Cynthia Hagenhoff of Jefferson City, Mo.; Ron and Laurie Dawson of Jefferson City, Mo.; and Jamie Dawson of Denver, Colorado; nine cousins, Tricia and Chris Hall of Boulder, Colorado, Matt and Alisa Welch of Lee's Summit, Mo., Bryan Welch and Skylar Richardson of Portland, Maine, Kara Hensley and Blake Wampler of Los Angeles, California, Brianna Hensley of Austin, Texas, Jacob Buzzard of Burleson, Texas, Meghan Copas of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Angela Copas of Lohman, Mo. and Jennifer Copas of Lohman, Mo. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James H. Dawson on February 22, 1974. A Celebration of Nathan's Life will be from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2012, at 107 East High St., Jefferson City, Mo. Private graveside services and interment will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery with Gary Maddox officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Brain Tumor Assn. in Nathan's memory.
