Larry J. "Woody" Wood

Mr. Larry J. "Woody" Wood, age 70 years, of Jefferson City, Mo.. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at St. Mary's Health Center. Larry was born on December 15, 1941, in Miller County, Mo., the son of Willie S. and Jewell R. Clement Wood. He was also very close with his aunt, Tonsey Watt, who helped raise him as well. He was married on January 7, 1961, in Eldon, Mo., to Eva Belle Roark. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area for the majority of his life, Larry was a 1960 graduate of Eldon High School. He was employed as a service manager with Goodyear from 1966 until 1972 in Littleton, Colo., and later worked for the City of Littleton as a traffic engineer from 1972 until 1979. Larry moved back to Jefferson City in 1979 to work at Fabick & Company as a Parts Specialist until his retirement in 1993. After retirement he worked part time at Carroll-Rehma Motors in Linn, Mo. He was a deacon and member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church near Olean, Mo. and a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club. Larry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing. His main passion though was spending time with his family and supporting his grandchildren at sporting events. He was a proud and valued member of the family micro sprint race team, Wood Motorsports, with his son, David, and grandson, Dallas. Survivors include: his wife of 50 years, Eva Wood; two daughters, Deborah S. Longanecker and her husband Michael of Jefferson City, Mo. and Judy K. Eichholz and her husband Darryl of Westphalia, Mo.; one son, David L. Wood and his wife Loleita of Jefferson City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Brandy Eichholz, Lynna Wood and her fiancÈ Michael Barnard, Christopher Eichholz, Dallas Wood, Katie Eichholz, Jeremy Longanecker and Mackenna Longanecker; a cousin, David Watt of Eldon, Mo. that he has been close with since childhood; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was awaiting the birth of one great-grandson who is expected in April 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, James Michael Longanecker in 1989. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 2, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2012, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or the Missouri Baptist Children and Family Ministries.
