Geraldine (Gerry) T. Ridgeway, 85, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at Jefferson City Manor Care Center, ending a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born June 16, 1926, in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Bahan) Cooney. She attended Blessed Sacrament grade school and Blewett High School in St. Louis, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Thomas Ridgeway, who preceded her in death. Gerry worked for many years as a Dictaphone operator on Washington Avenue in the old St. Louis Garment Industry area. She later served as a secretary for a number of companies including Roadrunner Express and Meco Tools in St. Louis. She retired as the Court/Police Clerk for the City of Charlack, Missouri, a job she truly loved. She is survived by her devoted daughter: Mary F. Ridgeway of Richmond, Virginia, who was able to be with her during her last few days on earth. She is also survived by her niece: Maggie (Jim) Baum of Cattawissa, Mo.; nephews: Edward "Butch" (Nancy) Cooney of High Ridge, Mo. and John (Carol) Cooney of Fenton, Mo.; and her many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She loved animals and leaves behind her beloved dog Goldie. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Gerry spent her last years at the Jefferson City Manor Care Center. The staff there came to be a second family to her and if she could, she would thank all of them for the wonderful care and love they provided during her courageous fight with Alzheimer's. Services and Entombment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, with Fr. Greg C. Meystrik officiating. In Lieu of Flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Dogwood Animal Shelter, 1075 Runabout Drive; Osage Beach, MO 65065; the Alzheimer Association; or an Animal Shelter of the Donor's Choice.
