Mr. Gerald R. "Jerry" Wilbers, age 68 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, February13, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born September 14, 1943, in Wardsville, Mo., the son of John and Frances Van Loo Wilbers. He was married on November 21, 1964, at Westphalia, Mo. to Carletta Rothove. A lifelong resident of Wardsville, Jerry attended Helias High School. Jerry was employed with the State of Missouri Office of Administration as Supervisor of the Housekeeping Dept. for 17 years prior to his retirement in September, 2003. Previously, he had been employed with Capital City Window and House Cleaning. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Wardsville, Mo. Jerry enjoyed playing golf, gardening and maintaining his beautiful lawn, but most importantly, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also coached American Legion Baseball for several years. His love of sports was passed on to his children and grandchildren. He coached and mentored many family and friends in baseball, football, and golf. Survivors include: his wife of 47 years, Carletta Wilbers; two sons, Brian Wilbers and his wife Jennifer of Jefferson City, Mo. and Mitchell Wilbers and his wife Donna of Tipton, Mo.; one daughter, Melissa Wilbers of Jefferson City, Mo.; two brothers, James Wilbers and his wife Rosella of Jefferson City, Mo. and Joe Wilbers and his wife Janet of Jefferson City, Mo.; three sisters, Regina Richter of Jefferson City, Mo., Mary Wilde and her husband Gene of St. Elizabeth, Mo., and Kathy Linnenbrink and her husband Bob of Jefferson City, Mo.; six grandchildren, Joshua Wilbers and his wife Megan of Peoria, Illinois, Jacob Wilbers of Jefferson City, Mo., Bradley Dicus of Salisbury, Mo., Benjamin Wilbers of Jefferson City, Mo., Kaley Wilbers of Tipton, Mo., and Brianna Wilbers of Tipton, Mo.; and very special to Jerry were his three god children, Fred Wilbers, Molly Rothove, and Jill Linnenbrink; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank "Butch" Wilbers and his wife Ernie and Donald "Dick" Wilbers and his wife Carol; one brother-in-law, Donnie Richter; and one sister-in-law, Dianna Wilbers. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012, at St. Stanislaus Church in Wardsville, Mo. with the Reverend Gregory Meystrik officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Stanislaus School. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
