George Christian Wagner, 77, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, February 3, 2012, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born December 25, 1934, in Jefferson City, a son of the late George Louis and Lena May (Madden) Wagner. He attended Forrest Elementary in Osage City and Jefferson City Public Grade School. He attended Jefferson City High School and went on to attend Plumbers & Pipefitters Trade School. On May 16, 1953, he was united in marriage in Jefferson City, to Nona Koch, who survives at their home. George was a Jefferson City Police Officer from 1959-1963, and worked for Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 562 of St. Louis from 1963 until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of Woodcrest Baptist Church in Jefferson City. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and volunteer service with Windermere Conference Center at the Lake of the Ozarks. Along with his wife Nona, George is survived by two sons: Roby Wagner (wife Bonnie) of Freeburg and Travis Wagner of Jefferson City; one daughter: Kerry Tydings (husband Jess) of Jefferson City; two brothers: Lawrence Elbert Wagner (wife Judy) of Jefferson City and Ralph Henry Wagner (wife Carol) of St. Peters; five grandchildren: Kyle, Nicholas and Staci Wagner, Jessica Payan, Jennifer Tydings; and four great-grandchildren: Grace and Tyler Wagner, Eli Brown and Ryann Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother: William Lee Madden. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 6, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Rev. David Arinder officiating. Entombment will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Windermere Conference Center in Lake Ozark, or the Woodcrest Christmas Offering.
