Bill Parker

"Coach" Bill Massey Parker, age 74, of Vienna, departed this life Sunday, January 29, 2012, in the Maries Manor Health Center, Vienna. He had been in failing health for some time. Bill was born on December 3, 1937, at Vienna, a son of Theron Columbus and Fanny Dale (Massey) Parker. Bill was united in marriage on December 21, 1979, at Vienna, to Patsy Lou Downing. Bill was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church. He was a 1955 graduate of Vienna High School and a 1959 graduate of Central Missouri State College, Warrensburg. Bill was a PE teacher and coach. During his career, he was employed at Vienna High School, Linn High School, Warrensburg High School, Linn Technical College, and then again at Vienna High School, where he retired in 1989, after 30 years of teaching and coaching young people. Bill was named 2-A Missouri Basketball Coach of the year in 1977, while coaching at Linn High School. Some of Bill's favorite activities were floating on the Gasconade River, fishing, hunting, traveling, and being with his grandchildren. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball. His team was the Missouri State Champions in 1973. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and all sports in general. Those left to mourn the passing of Bill include: his wife, Patsy Parker, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Tami and Doug Luebbering, St. Thomas; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sue Hodge, Phoenix, Arizona; Jane and Lloyd Murphy, Vienna; and Sally and Lynn Goodman, Overland Park, Kansas; four grandchildren, Courtney, Ben and Emma Luebbering and Krystle Lindeman; two great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one son, Terry Joe Lindeman on January 13, 2006; his father on July 24, 1979; his mother on July 19, 1999; three brothers, infant Dale Columbus Parker on December 2, 1933; Larry Joe Parker on March 21, 1992, and Thomas Arthur Parker on April 24, 2007; a brother-in-law, Jim Hodge, on September 23, 2011; a sister-in-law, Marcella Parker, on April 2, 2000; and a nephew, David Parker, on April 2, 2010. Visitation for Bill will be from 5 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2012, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes and 10 - 11 a.m., Thursday, February 2, 2012, in the Vienna United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted for Bill at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 2, 2012, in the Vienna United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Hargraves, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Vienna Public Cemetery under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
