Robert “Nic” Gene Nichols

October 30, 1940 - December 15, 2012

Robert "Nic" Gene Nichols, 72, of Holts Summit, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Capital Region Medical Center, after a courageous eight year battle with cancer. He was born October 30, 1940, in Jefferson City, Missouri, a son of the late Norman and Belvia (Helton) Nichols. He was raised by his mother Belvia and step-father Leslie "Hack" Holliday. He attended Jefferson City High School. On May 23, 1959, he was united in marriage to Catherine Dooling, who survives at their home. Bob worked for Unilever from 1974 until his retirement in 1998. He also worked for Major Brothers Construction, Sentinel Lumber Hardware, and Gay Martin Conoco Station. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, working on his farm, spending time outside, gardening, and mowing the lawn. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was always there when someone needed him, and he never met a stranger. Along with his wife Catherine, he is also survived by two daughters: Cindy Lauberth (companion Norbert Wilde) of Holts Summit and Joyce Nichols of Holts Summit; a sister: Judy Holliday of Holts Summit; three grandchildren: Cassie Lauberth (fiancÈ Lance Ratliff) of Olathe, Kansas, Kaitlyn Cook (husband Travis) of Holts Summit, and Brooke Nichols (fiancÈ Matt Colen) of Holts Summit; two great-grandchildren: Malayna Lauberth and Leyton Ratliff; with one great-grandchild "Speck" due in May. He is also survived by three nieces: Lisa, Kim, and Krystal; along with numerous extended family and friends. He was also preceded in death by a brother: Norman Earl Nichols. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home in Jefferson City. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 20, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home in Jefferson City with Major Kevin Cedervall officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Ridge Bull Cemetery in Holts Summit. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
