Ruth Lorene Heislen

Ruth Lorene Heislen, 86, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center. She was born July 9, 1926, in Jefferson City, the daughter of the late William Estel and Lavicie (Balven) Thompson. She was a graduate of Jefferson City High School. On June 28, 1947, Ruth was united in marriage at St. Peters Catholic Church to Lawrence L. Heislen, who preceded her in death on October 29, 2007. Ruth worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue for 23 years, and retired as Assistant Supervisor in the Division of Taxation in 1989. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Ruth was a St. Louis Cardinal's fan, and enjoyed playing cards, gardening, crappie fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth is survived by two sons: Roger Heislen (Kathy) of Taos; Gary Heislen (wife Lisa) of Jefferson City; one daughter: Gala Holliday (Herb) of Wardsville; eight grandchildren: Dale Heislen (wife Stacey), Cory Heislen (wife Tricia), Jennifer Garrison (husband Chris), Justin Holliday (wife Meghan), Ryan Heislen (wife Brie), Meredith Holliday, Nicole Heislen, Alec Holliday and nine great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother: V.E. (Gene) Thompson in 2004. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Monsignor David D. Cox officiating. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Helias Foundation, Alzheimer Association or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
