Carolyn Dotson McCondichie

March 21, 1933 - April 11, 2012

Carolyn Dotson McCondichie, 79, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Heisinger Bluffs. She was born March 21, 1933, in Omaha, Neb., the youngest of five children to Rev. James H. and Rebecca (Trevillion) Dotson. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1951. Carolyn received her B.S. degree in 1955, at Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Mo., and a Master of Teaching Arts degree from the University of Tulsa in 1964, with additional studies at OSU. She later married her childhood sweetheart Herbert McCondichie after a prior marriage (Hubert Stapleton). She and Herbert raised his son Howard and her two children Donna and Hugh, and were happily married 49 Ω years, until his passing September 29, 2011. Carolyn began her teaching career in 1954, in Festus and then Columbia, Mo. She later taught with Tulsa Public Schools at Douglas, Burroughs, and Frost Elementary Schools before retiring in 1987, after 20 years at Chouteau Elementary. Her teaching career spanned 30 years, which she enjoyed and loved. She was an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. (Gamma Epsilon Omega) and was a Golden Soror (50+ years). She loved her church, Second Baptist and previously attended Paradise Baptist Church in Tulsa, before moving to Missouri, and her father was instrumental in re-building Mt. Zion Baptist Church (that "Faith" built) as pastor. Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Donna Y. Cayer of Jefferson City, Mo.; and step-son Howard D. McCondichie and wife (Nadene) of Tulsa,, Okla.; one brother, James H. Dotson Jr. of Silver Springs, Md.; one sister, Vivian Jones of Jefferson City, Mo.; two grandsons, Marques Sutton and DeMarco Howard, both of Tulsa, Okla.; 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and adopted children (Treaka, E.J., and James), whom she loved very much. Her sister, Mildred Dotson Mayberry, brother Winfred T. Dotson, son Hugh Stapleton and husband, Herbert preceded her in death. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2012, at Second Baptist Church, 501 Monroe St., Jefferson City, Missouri. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Home, Second Baptist Church, or Children's Diabetes Research. Arrangements are under the direction of Heartland Cremation and Burial Society, Jefferson City, Mo.
