Bernard Buhr (Veteran)

unknown - unknown

Bernard "Ben" Buhr, 62, of Stevensville, Montana, formerly of Troy, Missouri, lost his fight with CJD on Monday, September 5, 2011, at the Fort Harrison Veterans Hospital in Helena. Ben was born March 6, 1949, in Gary, Indiana, to Henry and Maxine Buhr. He grew up in Merrillville, Indiana, and graduated from high school there in 1967. He married the love of his life, Peggy, on April 4, 1970, while serving his country in the Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Ben lived and worked as a carpenter for more than 35 years in Loveland, Colorado, Harrison, Arkansas, and Wentzville, Troy and Hawk Point, Missouri. In 2009, a semi-retired Ben and Peggy moved to Stevensville to be closer to their children. He was a substitute school bus driver and custodian in the Stevensville School District. His faith in Jesus Christ made as big an impact with all he met as much as his 6-foot-8 stature did. His compassionate heart and gentle nature made him liked by all, while his sense of humor earned him many eye rolls and head shakes. He enjoyed square dancing, photographing elk and other wildlife, and watching John Wayne movies (we think he has them all!) and the Denver Broncos. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend and will be missed by all. Those left to miss his presence and laugh include his wife, Peggy; daughter, Diana and Lewis Murphy Jr. and Cameron of Belgrade; son, Brian and Susan Buhr of Helena; sister and brothers, Bonnie and Shelby Gibson of Portage, Indiana, Byron and Kathy Buhr of Jefferson City, Missouri, Bill and Rosie Buhr of Harrison, Arkansas; as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends that span the U.S. Ben was preceded in death by his mother and father and a niece, Shelly. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, September 16, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Stevensville. A burial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Western Montana Veterans cemetery in Missoula after the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be sent to Our Savior Lutheran Church at 184 Pine Hollow Road, Stevensville, MT 59870. Arrangements are under the care of the Whitesitt Funeral Home in Stevensville. Condolences may also be left for the family online at millardfamilychapels.com
