Edward L. Reed

Edward L. Reed, 94, of California, Mo., passed away Friday, October 28, 2011, at his residence. He was born March 13, 1917, near California, the son of Alex and Agness Zimmerman Reed, both of whom preceded him in death. He went to Martin country school. He served in the U.S Army and was a veteran of World War II where he was stationed in India for three years. Upon coming home from the military, he was united in marriage on November 4, 1945, in Jamestown, to Maxine Dietzel, who survives of the home. He was a member of the California United Church of Christ. He was a mechanic for Garber Motors and retired from Schafter John Deere Implement and received many qualifications to work on heavy equiptment. Edward loved to tinker and enjoyed working on old steam engines. He is survived by one son, David Reed and wife Patsy of Tipton; one daughter, Sue Ann Latham and husband Richard of California; son in-law, William D. Wood of Kansas City; four granchildren; ten great-granchildren; and one sister, Dolly Chapel of Old Franklin. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Vicki Wood; one grandson, Daniel Latham; one brother, Herbert A. Reed; and four sisters. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services. Burial will be in the California Evangelical Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. Collette Jones. Memorials are suggested to the World War II Honor Flight Program, Moniteau County Christian Ministry Center or of the donors choice, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak St. California, MO 65018. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California.
