Mrs. Marie C. Schmidt, age 83 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Friday, September 30, 2011, at St. Joseph Bluffs. Marie was born March 22, 1928, in Macon, Mo., the daughter of Viggo L. and Mildred L. Shepard Olsen. She was married on November 30, 1946, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Matthew B. Schmidt, who preceded her in death on August 23, 2008. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Marie graduated from St. Peter High School. Marie was a wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph; the Delta Theta Tau Sorority; the United States Marine Corps League Auxiliary; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; a past member of the Immaculata Club; and a past member of the Cole County Republican Committee. Marie served as a substitute teacher at Immaculate Conception School and worked at several downtown womens wear establishments. Survivors include: two sons, Lawrence R. Schmidt and his wife Doris of Columbia, Mo. and Chris L. Schmidt of Jefferson City, Mo.; two daughters, Melinda Schmidt of Olathe, Kan., and Julie Moser and her husband Steven of Mattoon, Il.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at the Cathedral of St. Joseph from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2011. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Reverend Nicholas Reed officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Food Bank of North and Central Missouri for the Buddy Pack Program. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
