Julivia Dorene (Maier) Barry

Julivia Dorene (Maier) Barry, 85, of California, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011, at California Care Center. She was born April 22, 1926, in Moniteau County, to Fred William and Anna Lydia (Sauer) Maier, the oldest of three children. Julivia grew up on the family farm south of McGirk and graduated from California High School in 1944. Julivia met her husband, Richard in high school. They were married on June 8, 1946, and were married for nearly 65 years. Julivia was a long term member of the Kumjoinus club for 40+ years, an educational extension of women in the local community. Julivia was a charter member and served as President of the VFW Auxiliary. After her two boys were born, she and her husband became very active in Boy Scouts of America where she achieved the highest scout leader honor as a Silver Fawn. Julivia was very active in the local community and several church groups, she helped her husband run the family auto parts business and also worked as a teller at Farmers and Traders Bank. Later, once her boys were grown and graduated from high school, Julivia worked as an activities director at California Care for 22 years. She ended up spending the last few years of life being cared for in the same manner in which she cared for so many of her own patients. Her strong friendships and support for her community and church will be long remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Richard Barry (86); two sons, David Barry and wife Margaret of Highland Village, Texas and Fredrick Barry and wife Charlotte of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; and two brothers, Darwin (D.J.) and Bill (B.G.) Maier and wife Ruth, all of California. Julivia was also a loving grandmother to Sean, Kate and Chase Barry. A funeral service celebrating Julivia's life will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at California United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Enloe Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Collette Jones. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 23 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to be made to either the United Church of Christ in California, Missouri or Hospice Compassus, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak, California, MO 65018. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.
