Betty B. Campbell Newby, 89, a lifelong resident of Eldon, passed away Friday, May 13, 2011, at the Lakeside Meadows in Osage Beach. On September 24, 1921, she was born in St. Drawn, Neb., to the late Samuel and Minnie (Cheesman) Hughes. She was married to Carl R. Campbell on January 24, 1942, in Leavenworth, Kan. He preceded her in death on August 15, 1975. She then married Albert Wilson Newby on May 21, 1977, in Eldon and he preceded her in death on June 16, 1999. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eldon, and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers. She retired in 1978 after 30 years with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She enjoyed visiting with her family and friends and working in her flower gardens. Survivors include: two sons, Robert "Bob" Campbell and wife Norma Lee of Linn, and Douglas Campbell and wife Sonja of Eldon; one grandson, Shannon Campbell and wife Mindy of O'Fallon; two great- grandchildren, Brianna and Meghan Campbell. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Sam, Vernie, and Gene Hughes; sisters, Marie Vandervort and Vera Warner; and step-son, Frank Newby. Visitation and Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 16, 2011, at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. prior to funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. David White officiating. Interment will follow at Greenmore Memorial Gardens in Barnett. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
