Robert Ralph Jones

Robert Ralph Jones, 82, of Vienna, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, in the University of Missouri Medical Center, Columbia, after a brief illness. Ralph was born November 22, 1928, in Washington, Missouri, the son of Robert L. and Sadie Jones Wilson. Ralph was united in marriage on June 22, 1952, to Benita Sherrell; she survives at the home. Ralph proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge as a Technical Sergeant in November of 1952. Following his discharge, Ralph began employment at the Dixon Shoe Factory, and then began his career with the United States Postal Service. Ralph was promoted to the position of Vienna's Postmaster in January of 1969, and retired in 1989 after 20 years of service as Postmaster. He was well known throughout the community for his cheeful demeanor as he served his community in that position. Ralph was an avid gardener who was known throughout the community for sharing his produce with his friends and neighbors. Ralph loved the outdoors and particularly enjoyed mushroom, turkey and deer hunting. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and friends on his farm, where he operated a cattle business for many years with his son, Chesley. Ralph is survived by his wife, Benita; and five children: Pat and his wife Lisa Jones of Vienna, Constance Brown of Quebec City, Canada, Peggy Rowden and husband Donnie of Dixon, Chesley and wife Donna Jones of Vienna and Mickey Jones of Vienna; 17 grandchildren: Jamie, Jay, Tyler and Jesse Jones, John Brown II, Becky Massman, Laura Voss and William Rowden, Joe Breeding, Justin and Jason Roberson, Justin Jones, Bryon Helton, Ashley, John, Joe and Jacob Jones; 12 great-grandchildren: Dawson Jones, Joseph, Sarah and Anna Massman, Jacob and Jackson Voss, Haylley Roberson, Madeline and Taylor Breeding, Chance and Emma Roberson, and Austin Jones; and one brother, Howard and wife Emma Jean of Dixon. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Visitation will be Monday, March 7, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Vienna. Family visitation will commence at 4:00 p.m. with public viewing from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Vienna with interment immediately following at Vienna Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made in honor of the Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund with envelopes available at the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes of Vienna.
