Betty Lou (Winters) Charlson, age 82, went to be with her family in Heaven on Saturday, May 28, 2011, in Jefferson City. She was born in Marion, on September 20, 1928, the daughter of the late Mary and Porter Coonce. She was married to "Joe" G.W. Winters in June of 1948 and Ken Charlson in May of 1982, both deceased. Betty is mostly remembered for her fun and giggling ways and her "homemade cookies" from Schultes IGA. She will also be remembered for many talents. In her early years, she was a bookkeeper for JCPenney and then worked for Marge Backlese as a seamstress on draperies and opened Milo H. Walz drapery department. She then opened her own business "Drapery Design" and later opened "Betty's Bath Boutique" on Missouri Boulevard. Betty has left behind to carry on her work and image, one daughter, Debbie Howard and her husband Steve of Jefferson City; five grandchildren, Kari Underberg of Kansas City, Robin Hills (David) of Bloomfield, Colo., Hollie Howard of New York City, N.Y., Steve Howard (Nicci) of Jefferson City, and Dana McDowell (Ronnie) of Nashville Tenn.; five great- grandchildren, Ileana and Walden Hills, Morgan and Garon McDowell and Gianna Howard; and one brother, Jim Coonce of Virginia. She was preceded in death by one son, Gary Winters; and two brothers, Willis Coonce and Dean Coonce. A visitation memorial celebrating Betty's life will be held at Madison Cafe on Madison Street in Jefferson City on Thursday, June 30 from 6-8 p.m. Arrangements were under the direction of the Weber Funeral Home in California.
