Mr. Donald L. Delaney, age 85 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Friday, June 24, 2011, at St. Mary's Health Center. Donald was born September 15, 1925, in Macon, Mo., the son of Michael L. and Mary E. Lynch Delaney. He was married on September 11, 1948, in Kansas City, Mo., to Phyllis J. Crawford, who preceded him in death on April 14, 2008. A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1956, Don graduated from a Kansas City High School. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and was a radio operator in bomber planes in the South Pacific. Don was employed as a radio telecommunication operator with Central Electric Cooperative from 1956 until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in St. Martins, and enjoyed square dancing and gardening with his wife Phyllis. Survivors include: three sons, Stephen M. Delaney and Sharon Wiles of Jefferson City, Mo., Ronald K. Delaney and his wife Lisa of Shreveport, La., and Randall K. Delaney of Quebec, Canada; one daughter, Celia J. Wolz and her husband Terry of Centertown, Mo.; one sister, Anna Beth Thomure of Farmington, Mo.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah M. Delaney; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Delaney; two brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 27, 2011, with a prayer service to be conducted at 4:00 p.m. in the Freeman Chapel. Visitation will also be from 1:00 until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Macon, Mo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Macon, Mo. with the Reverend David Viet officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Macon, Mo. Those desiring may make memorials contributions to the American Lung Assn. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
