Dean L. Jones

(Veteran)

unknown - June 16, 2011

Dean L. Jones, age 90, of Jefferson City, Mo., left his world on Thursday, June 16, 2011. He was born on February 14, 1921, to David Jonathan Jones and Esther (Murlin) Jones in Cherokee, Oklahoma. He was married on September 29, 1946, to Beverly Harden, who preceded him in death in 1994. Prior to World War II, he served with an artillery battery in the Oklahoma National Guard. Upon the declaration of war, he joined the Army Air Corps and served as a ground crew chief in England and France with the 642nd Squadron under the 409th Bombardment Group (Light) with the 9th Air Force. He was awarded the Bronze Star. After being honorably discharged, he was employed as a meat cutter in Waynoka, Oklahoma. His long-term hearing loss made it difficult for him to serve his customers and to hear his newborn daughter. At the urging of his wife, Dean obtained a Beltone Hearing Aid that subsequently changed his life. Shortly thereafter he took a position as a Beltone Hearing Aid field representative and did very well. He and Beverly moved to Jefferson City in 1956, to start their own Beltone practice, Beltone Hearing Service (now known as Jones Beltone Hearing Center). Together they built it into a highly successful practice that is now operated by their two sons. He earned several awards from Beltone over the years, including the President's Cup for the Outstanding North American Dealer in 1976. Dean took great pleasure in time with family, Big Band Era music, fishing, evenings at the Eagles Club, and Cardinals Baseball. In his later years, he developed a close friendship with Cay Harden of Oakley, Kansas. Survivors include: his children, Missy Frink (Sam) of Hermann, Mo., David Jones (Maggie) of Hallsville, Mo., and Jim Jones (Diane) of Jefferson City, Mo.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three half brothers, Paul, Kenneth, and Charles Bodine; and one daughter, Rebecca Jones. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Sunday, June 19, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2011, at First Christian Church with the Reverend Larry Veatch officiating. Graveside services and entombment with military honors will be held at the Mausoleum of Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Those desiring may make memorials contributions to the Salvation Army; Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation; or First Christian Church of Jefferson City. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary. www.freemanmortuary.com
