Mrs. Ann McDowell, age 76 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday, June 5, 2011, at the Capital Region Medical Center after internal complications. Ann was born August 7, 1934, in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Elmer and Charlsie Snelling Martin. She was married on May 26, 1956, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Harold D. McDowell. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Ann was a 1952 graduate of Jefferson City High School. A homemaker, she had been employed with the Missouri Dept. of Revenue and with McDowell Realty and Insurance Co. She was a member of the First Baptist Church; the Order of the Eastern Star: the Auxiliary of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; and the Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 2693. Ann was an avid Jay football fan and was also a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader. Harold and Ann were co-chairmen of the Class of 1952 Reunions. She was a volunteer with the March of Dimes and enjoyed her card club. Harold and Ann enjoyed dancing, playing slot machines, but most importantly, spending time with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include: her husband of 55 years, Harold McDowell; one son, Rick McDowell and his wife Sally of Parkville, Mo.; two daughters, Cindy Lipp and fiancÈ Craig Perkins of Columbia, Mo. and Suzie Settle and her husband Mike of Lee's Summit, Mo.; one brother, Kenneth Martin and his wife Mary of Warrensburg, Mo.; six grandchildren, Madison McDowell, Corey Lipp, Austin Lipp, Steven Settle, Kaleb Settle, and Megan Settle; and one great-grandson, Jackson Settle. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandchild, Taylor McDowell; one brother, James Martin; and three sisters, Pauline Bemboom, Imogene Bemboom, and Brenda Keys. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2011, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Jay Football Foundation or the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
