A. Y. White, 93, of Argyle, departed this life Thursday, July 7, 2011, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Mr. White had been in failing health for some time. He was born on September 29, 1917, at Lenoir, North Carolina, a son of John Columbus and Lydia (Winkler) White, Mr. White was united in marriage on May 13, 1943, at St. Louis, to Pauline Catherine Wieberg and to this union two children were born. Mr. White was a United States Army Air Corps World War II veteran and a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle. He was a volunteer for the Argyle Fire Department, having built the department's first fire truck. Mr. White was owner and operator of White's Garage, Argyle for 47 years, retiring in 1992. Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. White include: his wife, Pauline C. White, of the home near Argyle; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald John and Dee White, Rolla; one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Bob Samson, Warner Robins, Georgia; three grandchildren, Todd White and wife, Tricia, Salisbury, Tricia Knapp and husband, Brian, Rolla and Tina Ashford and husband, Jason, Centerville, Georgia; nine great-grandchildren, Kyle White, Laura White, Anna White, Daniel White, Patrick White, Jacob White, Cameron Clayton, Mackenzie Clayton and Ryan Ashford; one step-great-grandchild, Lynsey Knapp; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Glenn White, Willard White, Willie White, Tony White and an infant. Visitation for Mr. White will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2011, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Visitation Saturday from 9 - 10 a.m. in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011, in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle, with Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz, officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow the Mass in the St. Aloysius Cemetery, Argyle under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. Masses are preferred by the family.
