Mrs. Martha E. Griffith, age 86 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Oak Tree Villas.
She was born on June 22, 1924, in St. Louis, Mo., a daughter of Sidney and Winifred Davis Pabor. She was married on July 2, 1949, in Jefferson City, to Boyd R. Griffith, who preceded her in death on June 14, 2000. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Martha was a 1942 graduate of Eldon High School. She was employed with the Missouri Division of Finance Dept. from 1947 until 1958. In 1974, she was employed with the Missouri Public Service Commission and retired from the Missouri Dept. of Economic Development on February 27, 1987. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church; the Order of the Eastern Star, Victoria Chapter #14; the American Association of Retired Persons and the Association of Retired Missouri State Employees. She was also a past member of the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra and the Jefferson City Symphony Orchestra. Martha enjoyed swimming, bowling and being a past den mother. She was also very active in the PTA. Boyd and Martha enjoyed dancing. Survivors include: one son, Randall B. Griffith and his wife Cecelia of Anderson, S.C.; four grandchildren, Meghan Lewis and her husband Caleb, Geoffrey Griffith and his wife Katie, Bryce Griffith and his wife Kayla, and Susan Griffith and her fiancÈ, Asa Shaffer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, James Pabor and Sidney Pabor, and one sister, Mary Jane McEntire. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday January 26, 2011, in the Freeman Chapel. Interment will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church or the charity of their choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
