Mr. Robert E. Holliway Jr., age 90 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday, January 16, 2011, at the Jefferson City Manor Nursing Center. Bob was born April 20, 1920, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Robert E. Sr., and Florence Tuckley Holliway. He was married on September 28, 1946, in Jefferson City, Mo. to Mary Frances Gentry, who preceded him in death on June 8, 2007. He was a 1938 graduate of Jefferson City High School and a 1946 graduate of the University of Missouri at Columbia. Bob served in the United States Army during World War II in North Africa and Europe being discharged as a sergeant. Bob was employed with the Missouri Conservation Commission from 1946 until 1949. He was employed by the Missouri Dept. of Insurance from 1949 until 1969, serving as Chief Examiner from 1962 until 1969. From 1969 until his retirement in 1982, he was the Director of Public Relations for Rockford Life Insurance Co., Rockford, Illinois. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; a past member of the Jefferson Lodge No. 43, A.F. & A.M.; a member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity; and a past member of the Moolah Temple, St. Louis, Mo. Bob and Mary Frances returned to Jefferson City in 1998. He enjoyed photography and playing the piano. Survivors include: one son, Robert H. Holliway (Col, USAF, retired) of Valdosta, Georgia; one daughter, Jane Bergner and her husband Dave of Mesa, Arizona; two grandchildren, Capt. Patrick Holliway (US Army) of Midland, Georgia and Elizabeth Hicks of Dayton, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren, Clark Holliway and Caleb Holliway. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one sister, Mary Jane Sills. Visitation will be at the First Presbyterian Church from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Robert Erickson and the Reverend Dr. David Henry officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church or the Shriners Childrens Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
