Mr. Michael M. Reed, age 49 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, January 3, 2011. Mike was born January 7, 1961, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Sherrill D. and Patsy J. Smith Reed. He was married on March 17, 1978, in Miller County, Mo. to Susan E. "Sue" Gilbreth. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Mike attended Jefferson City Public Schools. He had been employed with Septagon Industries for over 15 years and currently was employed with Capital Sand Company for the past three years. Mike had a passion for motorcycles and loved traveling on his motorcycle with family and friends across the United States. Most importantly, he was a devoted husband, father, and Papa who enjoyed spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren, who he referred to as Bubby and Sissy. Keegen and Papa Mike spent hours playing with nerf guns, fixing stuff, and watching cartoons, especially Tom and Jerry. Paige and Papa Mike spent time playing games, playing with her babies, and having picnics with all the food she made in her "kitchen." He also loved taking Paige and Keegen on motorcycle rides around the neighborhood. Mike and Sue usually had them every other weekend and Mike spent hours looking forward to and planning those weekends. He loved telling stories to friends and family about his grandchildren and repeating their famous sayings. Survivors include: his wife of 32 years, Sue Reed; one daughter, Tabatha Darlene Patterson and her husband Doug of Higginsville, Mo.; one son, Jonathan Michael Reed and his wife Amy of Lohman, Mo.; three brothers, Butch Reed of Jefferson City, Mo., Richard Gardner and his wife Renae of Fulton, Mo., and Donald Reed and Sindy of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Rhonda Loveall of Jefferson City, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Keegen Reed and Paige Reed. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 8, 2011, in the Freeman Chapel. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Tuscumbia, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Reed Grandchildren Educational Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary. www.freemanmortuary.com
