Velma Lucille Hackett, age 73, of Willow Springs, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City. She was born on November 3, 1937, in Calexico, Calif., to Fred and Ethel (Webb) Siegrist. Velma married her high school sweetheart, Harvey Hackett, on October 22, 1955. In the early days of her marriage, she worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell and the Internal Revenue Service in Kansas City, before becoming a full-time homemaker and mother of three. Velma was of the Baptist faith, and she was a member of the Central Calvary Baptist Church. She had an avid love for birds, flowers and books. However, her family was the most important part of her life. Velma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. Velma is survived by her husband, Harvey Hackett of Willow Springs; her son, David and his wife Sherrill of Jefferson City, and their children, Ashley and Sabrina; her son, Forrest of Independence and his children, Chris and Tiffany; her daughter, Teresa and her husband Kevin Lapointe of Kansas City, and their children, Kayla, Justin, Bethany and Hayley. Velma is further survived by one sister, Freda Parsons of Mountain View; her brothers, Allen Siegrist and his wife Ingeborg of Webster Grove, Clifford Siegrist and his wife Glenda of Bristow, Okla., Kenny Siegrist and his wife Paula of Delavan, Ill. and Leon Siegrist of Milton, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Conaway Parsons. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 31, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Calvary Baptist Church in West Plains, with the Reverend Frank Mulford officiating. Burial followed in the Willow Springs City Cemetery, with arrangements under the direction of Willow Funeral Home in Willow Springs.
