Mr. Paul H. Sanderson Jr., age 90 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday, January 2, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home, Mexico, Mo. Paul was born August 15, 1920, in Bowling Green, Mo., the son of Paul H. Sr. and Julia B. Howing Sanderson. He was married on March 30, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo., to Ellen Ann Markle, who preceded him in death on September 10, 2001. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Paul graduated from Jefferson City High School and attended the University of Missouri at Columbia. He received an associates degree from Lincoln University in May 2004 at the age of 83. Paul served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II from September 1941 until December 1945 and in the Korean Conflict from October 1950 until April 1952. He was a member of the First Baptist Church; the Samuel Gearhart Detachment of the Marine Corps League; the Veterans of Foreign War, Roy Sone Post 1003; and the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5. Paul was employed as a sales representative with several insurance agencies retiring from AAA Insurance Agency in 1982. Survivors include: two sons, Phillip M. "Mark" Sanderson of Jefferson City, Mo. and Thomas E. Sanderson and his wife Carol of Jefferson City, Mo.; two brothers, Richard H. Sanderson of Jefferson City, Mo. and Clifford W. Sanderson and his wife Patricia of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Jessica Ann Sanderson and Andrew Michael Sanderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one brother, William B. Sanderson. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 6, 2011. Private graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Marine Corps League's Toys for Tots. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
