Mary Emma Schmutz Boessen, age 84, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011, at her home. She was lead to the gates of heaven by the love of her life and guardian angel who preceded her in death, Ralph A. Boessen. She was greeted at the gates by our Heavenly Father; her parents, Emmett and Vera Forbis-Schmutz; and one sister, Ila Fern Schmutz-Priest. Mary was born on January 2, 1927, in Jefferson City, Mo., where she remained a lifelong resident. On October 3, 1959, she wed Ralph A. Boessen from Loose Creek at the Immaculate Conception Church in Jefferson City. She was employed at Division of Employment Security for 45 years retiring in 1992. She was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ and Elenor Circle; a charter member of Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 2693 Auxiliary; a member of the American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5 Auxiliary; a 50 year member of the Delta Tau Sorority; and a member of Amvets Post 108 at Rocky Mount. She was an avid bowler for 60 years, having served on the Jefferson City WBA board as president and secretary, retiring from the board in 2000 when she was awarded life membership in October 2000. In June 2006, she was inducted into the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame and the US Bowling Congress in St. Louis. Mary took great pleasure entertaining loved ones at her home. She and her husband were the host of many barbeques and holiday events. After she retired, she also enjoyed spending time at the gambling boat with family and friends. Survivors include: one brother, Emmett Dale Schmutz of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Sylva O'Dell Schmutz-Hunolt and her husband Rick of Jefferson City, Mo.; four sisters-in-law, Laurine Boessen and Alma Boessen from Loose Creek, Mo. and Clara Boessen and Dorothy Boessen of Jefferson City, Mo.; six nieces; 10 nephews; and 26 great-nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 27, 2011, with an Eagles Auxiliary Memorial Team service held at 6:45 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 28, 2011, at the Central United Church of Christ with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to to Missouri River Hospice or Elenor Circle of Central United Church of Christ.
