Gilbert G. Hilkemeyer, age 91, of Loose Creek, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Westphalia Manor in Westphalia.
Gilbert was born on July 27, 1919, in Westphalia, a son to the late Gerhardt and Gertrude (Lubbert) Hilkemeyer. He was a graduate of Westphalia High School and was a World War II and Korean War Army Veteran. On November 20, 1943, he was united in marriage to Emma Lock in Las Vegas. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2008.
Gilbert was employed as the manager at Three Rivers Electric in Linn for 50 years until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek and a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Gilbert enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Gilbert is survived by: one son, John and his wife Sue Hilkemeyer of Jefferson City; three daughters, Lynn Behn and her husband Bob of Los Angeles, Calif., Paula Hilkemeyer and Becky Hilkemeyer, both of Kansas City; one sister, Trudy Conine of Natchitoches, La.; five grandchildren, Neil Hilkemeyer, Ben Hilkemeyer, Nathan Hilkemeyer, Laura Hilkemeyer and Chris Behn; two step-grandchildren, Jessica (Jeremy) Cozart and Justin (Leah) Bolten; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Gilbert was preceded in death by one son, Joe Hilkemeyer, four brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 21, 2011, at Morton Chapel in Linn with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek with Fr. David Means as the celebrant. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery with military honors. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Immaculate Conception School.
