Norris R Bonecutter

January 12, 1947 - February 11, 2011

Norris Ray Bonecutter, 64, of California, passed away Friday, February 11, 2011, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City. He was born January 12, 1947, in Lebanon, to Alvin R. (Sam) Bonecutter and the late Phyllis Lee (Wood) Bonecutter. He married Carrie Grace on December 13, 2005, as she was the love of his life. Norris was a 1965 graduate of California High School. Norris loved his time with Carrie in the outdoors, which included hunting and fishing. He could make arrowheads, etch glass, woodwork, play the guitar and harmonica, and never met a small engine he wouldn't tackle. Norris and Carrie were active in the Missouri Valley Steam Engine Association and enjoyed showing small steam engines at the annual show. There was never a challenge he wasn't up for. Norris was most recently employed by Bonnie Plants. Prior to that, he owned a small engine repair business called Cedar Cliff Lawn and Garden, which was located in California for eight years. Before this he was employed at Western Auto for 18 years. For two years he taught small engine repair evening classes at Linn Technical College. He was proud of his Native American heritage, but most of all he was proud of his family. He is survived by his wife Carrie, of the home; his father, Alvin, of California; his mother-in-law, Jean Shattuck of Russellville; three sons, Steven (Melissa) Bonecutter of California, Kevin (Tracy) Bonecutter of Fulton, and James (Crystal) Bonecutter of California; one daughter, Darla Bonecutter of Columbia; two step-sons, Wayne (Rachel) Wells of Odessa and Josh (Katie) Wells of Jamestown; grandchildren, Kayla, Tayler Rae, Wyatt Joe, Cody, Katie, Acacia, Dustin, Austin, Thad, Isaac, Zackarie, Johnny, Ben and Isabella; three great-grandsons, Tristan, Talyn and Traye; two brothers, Walter (Michelle) Bonecutter of Bunceton and Kenneth (Linda) Bonecutter of Fontana, Kan.; one sister, Rhonda (Al) Leighton of California; three nieces, six nephews, six great-nieces and seven great-nephews. He was preceded in death by Darlene Coon Bonecutter, the mother of his children. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California. Burial will be in McGirk Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Donald C. Wood. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Norris was never a shirt and tie man and would want his friends to be comfortable too, so come in what makes you feel the best. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to either the Latham School Rebuild or to the family of Norris Ray Bonecutter, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak, California, MO 65018. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.
