James Nelson Sr.

James R. Nelson Sr., 82, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Ashland Health Care. He was born December 13, 1929, in Spring Creek, Missouri, the son of Ray and Lucy (Riley) Nelson. He attended Vienna High School. On September 7, 1957, James was united in marriage in Jefferson City to Rebecca S. Williams, who survives at their home. James served in the United States Army from 1951-1952, stationed in Germany. He worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections, Von Hoffmann Press and retired from Unilever after 23 years with the company. James was past president of the Brazito-Honey Creek Lions Club and enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife Rebecca, James is survived by three sons: James Ray Nelson, Jr. and wife Donna of Jefferson City, Donald W. Nelson of St. Louis, Kendall A. Nelson and wife Lilian of Columbia; two sisters: Marie Jordan and Nina Rieks, both of St. Louis; two grandchildren: Rocky L. Nelson and Tina Nelson; and one great-grandchild: Rocky W. Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, John Nelson; and three sisters, Ruth Jones, Lorene Buckley and Maye Trout. Friends will be received from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2011, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Ward officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation.
