Florence L. Warrick, 81, Waynesville, passed away, Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo. Florence Lorene Shirley was born July 8, 1930, Gooch's Mill, Missouri, the daughter of the late Emma Campbell Shirley and Hal Shirley. Florence and her twin sister (Emma Direne) were the youngest of eight siblings. Florence attended Western Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri from 1943 to 1946, and then returned to Boonville, Missouri where she attended Sumner High School. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1950. She joined the Morgan Street Baptist Church in Boonville, Missouri at an early age and renewed her membership upon her return to Missouri. Florence met her future husband (Lucius Warrick) while she attended high school. They dated during high school and the four years Lucius attended Lincoln University and were married in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on August 4, 1953. They celebrated their 58th Wedding anniversary during August of this year. Florence accompanied her husband on three foreign tours to Germany during the years 1956 to 1970. She became very proficient in several crafts during the 20 years her husband spent in the U.S. Army. She loved to paint, was an outstanding seamstress, was particularly talented in ceramics, and helped supervise the Ceramics Shop at Fort Knox, Kentucky prior to the retirement of her husband in 1973. Florence was also an avid bowler and traveled throughout the United States to participate in bowling tournaments, to include Reno, Nevada, Kansas City, Kansas, Kansas City, Missouri, Oklahoma, Indianapolis, Indiana and St. Louis, Missouri. Florence is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years; Lucius Warrick of the home, one daughter, Marceda Warrick, a resident of Van Nuys, California; a loving twin sister, Emma Freeman of Boonville, Missouri, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Florence was preceded in death by her father, Hal Shirley; her mother, Emma Shirley; two sisters, Frances Burnham and Minnie Shirley; and four brothers, Albert Shirley, Lewis Shirley, Ernest Shirley and Harold Shirley. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2011, at Morgan St. Baptist Church in Boonville, with burial in Boonville Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11-12 Friday at the church.
