Mrs. Edith Hedwig Brown, age 96 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, December 26, 2011, at the Capital Region Medical Center. Edith was born November 26, 1915, in Danzig, Germany, the daughter of Otto and Anna Hopp. She was married in 1948 in Fussen, Germany to Ernest Wade Brown, who preceded her in death in 1990. When Germany invaded Poland to begin World War II, Edith and her family fled to Fussen, Germany. She was employed as a beautician when she met her husband, Ernest Wade Brown. After World War II, the family lived at several military bases in the United States and Europe. They moved to Jefferson City in 1965 and she was employed as a Nurses Aide with Memorial Community Hospital for several years. Edith was a member of a sports club as a gymnast as a young woman in Germany. Survivors include: one daughter, Kathy Oliver and her husband Jack of Jefferson City, Mo.; one son, Harold Hopp and his wife Cathy of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandsons, Eric Hopp and his wife Angelique and Scott Kasmann and his wife Janice; and two great- grandchildren, Elizabeth Kasmann and Heather Kasmann. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Heinz Hopp and Fritz Hopp. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2011, in the Freeman Chapel. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
